What Games Have You Bought Recently?

  1. I bought Dark Souls III with the DLC on Steam for $15. I hardly played these games after being so disappointed with DS II after Demon's Souls and Dark Souls were among my favorite games of the time. Dark Souls III gets the series back on track in a manner that is worthy of the series' reputation. I decided to start with a Dex/ Faith build and see how it goes. It was amusing to see how they put a boss right at the beginning preventing you from leveling up until you defeat it. You just take a beating until you are up to speed. It took me a few tries to get the timing back, but I'm moving ahead at a decent pace now.

  2. I’ve been watching her play a little, haven’t jumped on myself. It seems ok, looks and sounds great... But when did final fantasy games become “run forward and mash square”?

  3. The mashing square is mainly busywork to increase your ATB bar so you can use your skills and spells. If you're playing on normal then it gets quite difficult

  4. Yeah she is progressing and it’s looking less like a bad God of War and more like a Final Fantasy.

We ended up buying a ton of FFs. There was a sale so we got a few versions of 7, 8, 10, and 12. Playing through 8 right now.

  5. Bought the Snow Runner on PS4. Surprisingly satisfying game, kind of Dark Souls with vehicles.

Part of the problem is that just after the tutorial, I didn't know how to make a single step forward. Each objective that makes you go through the mud/snow ends up being stuck somewhere. I immediately remembered myself being killed everywhere in Dark Souls years ago (well, shouldn't have tried New Londo or Catacombs early).

An hour or two later I realized you need both AWD and differential lock in a truck and only then missions start to make sense. It was exactly this moment in Dark Souls when I found my first shield that blocked 100% physical damage. Few hours later, sold all the stock and bought just one, heavier and stronger truck.

Anyway, this one is slow and crude, there are multiple maps to explore (3 regions with few maps in each region) and many, many things to do. Seems like I'll spend many hours there.

  6. I was going to say that Snow Runner looked like Spintires but then I saw that it's basically Spintires 3. Spintires was interesting but I couldn't get into it. Maybe it was a lack of missions.

  7. Is anyone planning on buying The Last of Us Part II? I'd be very interested in hearing your thoughts if so. I'm probably going to pass on it and buy Ghost of Tsushima next. I can't think of the last Naughty Dog game I passed on prior to this. Probably the Jak and Daxter racing game on PS2.

  8. Did you not like The Last of Us then? Thought it was meant to be amazing and hasn’t the sequel got amazing reviews?

  9. TLOU2 is much better than the first one. It's amazing. Lots of new gameplay type stuff and the graphics are the best the PS4 has seen.

  10. I loved The Last of Us. I bought it on PS3 and the remastered version on PS4. I consider the first game among the best of last generation. I am skeptical of the reviews of TLoU2. I usually rely on ACG and SkillUp for accurate, trustworthy reviews. A review from either is more meaningful to me that 1,000 reviews by the shill press that gives Call of Duty games 8s and 9s annually. SkillUp thought it was lousy. I'm awaiting ACG's take. The graphics and animation look spectacular. I watched the opening scene in upscaled 1440p/ HDR online.

  11. Mate its even better than the first and I am not even near the end yet. It's an evolution of it plus that same great feeling you got with the first. Combat is much better as well with dodging and crawling etc.

  12. I've decided to buy the digital version and give it a try. At the very least it will be a very nice looking and sounding game.

  13. Halo collection on Steam. Not sure when or if I’ll get to play it lol.

  14. @AKS

How was Death Stranding? It’s about to come out on PC. Critic reviews are all over the place. Worth buying?

  15. I really enjoyed it, but the story and design in general are very unusual and polarizing. It's much more of an exploration game than an action game. You also build a lot of structures that show up in other players worlds and vice versa you can "Like" helpful stuff similar to social media and even repair other players' stuff if you want. It has some exceptional acting, but the real standout stuff that won it several acting awards is towards the end of the game. You might want to wait until it's discounted unless you're really in the mood for something very strange and nontraditional.

  16. @cmdrmonkey I can recommend this more comfortably:

It looks like it's going to be a very good port. In my case I'll probably wait and see if there is a significant PS5 update to the game, though. They updated games when the Pro came out, and some were massive upgrades visually like Ratchet and inFamous. It would be even easier to do this with Horizon given the settings upgrades have already been completed with the PC port. The "Complete Edition" title suggests the Frozen Wilds DLC is almost certainly included, which looked even more advanced than the base game.

Yeah Horizon will probably be a day one purchase. I think I will wait for a price drop on Death Stranding.

Halo MCC was the main thing that would have gotten me to get an XB1 and Horizon is the main thing that would have gotten me to get a PS4. Both are now on PC. PC Master Race FTW.

  18. The Decima Engine appears to be scaling up to higher spec hardware quite well between this Zero Dawn port and the early footage in the Forbidden West trailer. I'm expecting Death Stranding to look very good on PC a well, although I can't find any high resolution or high frame rate footage of it despite the release date approaching soon. I've read Death Stranding runs well on lower end cards and appears to be well optimized.

  19. I finally found some high resolution and frame rate footage of Death Stranding on PC only the day before it is being released.

The colors look very odd to my eyes having played this so much in HDR, but the frame rate increase looks very nice. I've skimmed a few articles about it, and some are really raving about it being a superb port.

  20. I preordered and already downloaded Ghost of Tsushima awaiting it to be unlocked. It's getting very positive reactions from reviewers I trust like ACG and SkillUp. It looks like it will be Sony's last great AAA PS4 project.
