What TV Shows Are You Watching?

  1. Quoted for truth. I always thought they were just "that pokey car show on bbc2" but it really is a worldwide success these days. Best motoring show ever, I like cars but I'm not a massive petrol head or anything, and even though most of what happens is scripted its still hilarious.

  2. I find that Fifth Gear has tried to tried to be more and more quirky to compete with Top Gear but still has its old fashioned pre 2002 Top Gear format for the most part. Hell Fifth Gear still has Tiff, Quentin and Vicky. If Clarkson ever moved over to Fifth Gear switching on Channel 5 would be like going through a time warp back into the 90's!

  3. The episode with the 3 wheel car had me laughing so hard. Best episode ever.

  4. Did the 3 wheeled car ever make it big in America, it was never really big over here but everyone knew the name Reliant Robin. Whether this was because of Only Fools and Horses is of course up for debate..

  5. I think 3 wheel cars were banned in the 80s and 90s but they are probably legal now as long as they can pass safety standards. We have a few cars with just 1 rear wheel but those might be considered motorcycles.

  6. I was going to start catching up on Justified Season 3 this week, but I already blew through 9 of the 13 episodes in one day. It's been fucking awesome this season, I'm not sure what usual standards you are talking about. The ONLY negative thing compared to previous seasons is Raylan's bodycount has been pretty low so far. This seasons villain is pretty convincing as an unpredictable sociopath. It changes the scope of things from the hillbilly thugs they previously showed.

What's really weird about this show is it clearly defines the good and bad roles, but the characters are so fucking interesting I root for nearly everyone. I want Raylan to shoot criminals and do his job, but still want Boyd to run his criminal empire. I also like Dickie, and Wynn Duffy and don't want to see them die or go to jail either.

  7. Finished off the whole season... thought it was best yet. As far as I can tell Raylon possibly had a zero body count of the 3 shootings he was involved in. Two definitely survived, it wasn't made clear if the 3rd died. I expect to see this rectified in S4.

  8. Justified Season 3

I thought it was the best season of the show by far.

  9. This season of Justified has been great but I think it just dragged a little in the middle of the season. The last two seasons have always had me thinking that I couldn't wait to see the next episode but that seemed to be missing this season. That said, I'm super fucking busy at the minute and things like TV shows are greatly reduced in my priorities so that could explain my apparently lack of enthusiasm. Although I will say I think I was correct in my prediction that the season would end in a great way.

  10. "They say I disarmed him." LOL.

  11. I've started watching the first season of the original Space: 1999, although not in exact episode order. Despite the ridiculous premise of the show and some definite campiness in the mix, it's actually a fairly entertaining series overall if you enjoy cult sci-fi material. The reputation of the first season is that the episodes are slower moving and more "horror" oriented, while the second season is faster paced and more "action" oriented. "Death's Other Dominion" and "Troubled Spirit" are the two best so far in Season 1, and have fairly original story lines. Martin Landau is probably the only legitimately good actor in the main cast (similar to Jack Lord in the original Hawaii Five-O), but typically the guest stars that appear in individual episodes raise the bar a bit.

  12. Just about to finish watching all the episodes of Sunny. I've really enjoyed it; can be a little patchy at times but it's mostly very funny. Wouldn't put it above the US version of The Office but I'm glad I've watched it.

Thinking of the next series to watch; maybe Breaking Bad or Dexter if there's no other comedy series that grab me. Arrested Development might be an option; that any good?

  13. I think you have to have a certain kind of humor to get into Arrested Development. It wasn't my cup of tea.

Breaking Bad is excellent, but very involved. Watch it when you have plenty of time to devote to the show. Once you hit Season 2, it really picks up and you won't be able to stop watching.

Dexter is uneven, but it has some really good seasons. Each season revolves around a different killer, and some are more interesting than others.

  14. Arrested Development is an excellent show, with consistent quality start to finish. It may not be to your taste but I'd make the 20 minute investment in the pilot. It's also the only one of the three that is wrapped up already, which is a plus in my opinion.

Breaking Bad is also a great show and stays consistent throughout. Can't really go wrong.

Dexter S1/S2 was top notch, it sputtered hard S3. It's trying to recover, but its lost luster to me.

  15. Very true. The psycho DA was a horrible villain, and I hated Rita and that whole marriage and kids subplot. It really derailed the show.

I thought John Lithgow was pretty good in season 4. But in general the show has turned into a parody of itself with a lot of bad acting, increasingly ridiculous and implausible subplots, and soap opera caliber writing. It's a shame because it showed so much promise and the guy playing dexter is a pretty good actor who deserves better material than what he's being given to work with.

  16. Hatfields & McCoys

It's not bad but I did turn it off at one point because I thought it got stupid.

  17. My wife was watching that. Seemed like a lot of fake beards and washed up actors. What dumpster did they pull Kevin Costner out of?

  18. Been going through Dexter recently; quick summary of my thoughts so far:

Season 1 was great; nice pacing and mixture of story strands.

2 was a bit of dip but still good

3 was disappointing; the over-arching story with the Assistant DA was pretty damn dull.

4 was a real return to form. Lithgow was great and the way the main story developed was nicely done; the twist at the end was fantastic too.

Season 5 is up next. Looking forward to it but I wonder if it can live up to season 4.

  19. Season 5 was like an overlong Lifetime original movie.

  20. Quit harshing my buzz, man.

Have to get started on season 5 soon and see for myself.
