What TV Shows Are You Watching?

  1. Thank Netflix! I know I'm a few years late, but how come I'm just now watching Battlestar Galactica and think it's the greatest sci-fi series ever? If only all remakes/reboots were this good.

  2. Season 2 of the Battlestar Galactica remake is some of the best TV you'll ever see. Make sure you watch BSG Razor, as it goes into more detail on the Pegasus and how it escaped the destruction of the colonies.

The Battlestar Galactica remake is probably my favorite sci-fi series of all time. I ended up liking it more than Star Trek The Next Generation or Firefly, both of which are also very good shows.

  3. Justified wrapped up yesterday for season 4. Good tv. Wanted a higher body count though.

  4. So if I were to watch one TV show every night before I go to bed should it be Battlestar Galactica or Breaking Bad?

  5. Hmm, so BSG season 2 is decent? I watched the 2 part mini-series before the series premiered and a few eps of season 1 and couldn't get back into it. I wanted to murder some of the characters myself. Maybe I'll jump back into it for season 2. Hell it's taking up like almost 300GB of my external hdd space since i grabbed the bluray rip of it. Might as well.

  6. Season 2 focuses more on epic space battles. It's where the show really lives up to its potential in my opinion. Another Battlestar that survived the destruction of the colonies shows up and the fleet starts to fight back. Unlike Galactica, Pegasus is a state of the art ship with advanced weapons. And I really like how BSG handles space battles. There's no sound, and you frequently have people getting thrown into the vacuum of space. The weapons also aren't far fetched ray guns or anything like on star trek. Mostly just missiles, machine guns, rail guns, and nukes.

And I also thought season 1 started off a bit slow.

    @bfun

Depends on whether you're in the mood for sci-fi or a crime drama. They're both excellent series.

  7. I watched the first two episode of BSG. It's pretty good so far but I'll need to watch a lot more before I make a real verdict. Star Trek NG and Firefly took some time to develop and I expect BSG will as well.

  8. BSG was made by most of the same people who made Star Trek TNG just so you know.

  9. The 2 part mini-series before season one started? Ya, that was awesome but the pace slowsdown alot when season one starts. But from what cmdr said.. season two is when the series jump starts itself again.

  10. I never had a problem with the pacing on BSG. If you're going to have a show with some real emotional impact, you need some "slower" episodes with character development and back stories in the mix. Hard to believe the 10 year anniversary is coming up in December.

  11. I didn't even know that was a mini series. I just though the episodes were really freakin long.

  12. Not sure how I feel about the first two episodes of Dr Who in the second half of the series. Will have to see how this goes.

Speaking of the doctor really enjoying Broadchurch. Still have no idea who did it, get a feeling the woman in the caravan is too obvious. Having one murder story stretch over 8 one hour episodes means that the you have a lot of time to think about it between each which is a nice change.

Tried Plebs on ITV2 but don't think it is overly funny.

Watched the first few episodes of the US show revolution. Not sure on this one yet.

In other older news apparently Rhianna Pratchett is going to be the writer on The Watch. I forgot about it as it was announced a long time ago and went dead. Terry said casting news was exciting in November. Still not much real news on it but having a Discworld TV show based on the watch is something I am really looking forward to. I know she is more known for games such as Mirrors Edge and the new Tomb Raider but she knows her dad's books inside out so I can't think of anyone better considering his condition. Just a shame that although he has said he is leaving the discworld in her hands she doesn't want to carry on the books when he goes.

What did you think of In The Flesh in the end Chi? I quite enjoyed it, having a new take on the zombie genre was refreshing.

  13. Revolution is horrible man. Don't watch it. In all honesty, even if you do, it'll be a huge waste of time as it'll most likely get the axe soon.

  14. I'm torn on Revolution. I tried to get into it but from a scientific standpoint it just doesn't make sense and I know it's going to be cancelled anyway.

  15. To be honest I am not sure I would gave gotten much further myself anyway. American dramas have all been a bit naff and samey for a few years now and this doesn't seem to be breaking the formula. The only thing that has done well is GoT.

I have lost faith in American TV to be honest. Its either people talking to the camera about what they just did 5 seconds before, really over the top and stupid with shows like CSI or just outright stupid comedy that isn't funny with idiots like Charlie Sheen in it.

  16. Supernatural, The Walking Dead, Sons of Anarchy and Game of Thrones are quality though.

The trailer for Revolution looks good but everyone is saying it is shite.

  17. You and me both. I try to find at least 2 show that I like and stick with those. Walking Dead and GOT are my current ones. I'm sure there are others that are good, like Justified. Adult Swim can be good some times. I like the news but it's gotten so political I can't stand it anymore.

  18. I thought in the flesh was fantastic. Really good characters and a nice spin on the zombie genre.

It was hard to watch at times, heartwarming at times and that last episode really tore at the heartstrings.

I really hope they bring it back for another series, there's so much left unexplored. Like that commune, I really want to see if it's as dodgy as I think it is.

Did you catch Jonathan Creek? That was a welcome return to one of my favourite shows. Several arcs going on and kept me guessing right until the reveal but the end was a bit weak with the reasoning behind the whole thing.

Still, I hear they're doing three more episodes. I'm happy with that.

The latest doctor who is a bit annoying, with this companion with a secret thing. It feels like Moffat is turning the doctor into Sherlock but with "wacky" behaviour to differentiate them.

Still got to watch the latest episode of broadchurch. That caravan woman is that Pauline lady from birds of a feather, isn't she?

  19. Luke Newberry who played Kieren has expressed his desire to do a second run but the show didn't get that many viewers, it peaked at around 0.65 million. Not sure what the hope for on BBC3 at 10pm Sunday night and I have no idea if this is enough to get it a second run. When you consider that this is around 1% of the population I don't suppose that is too bad for its slot.

I missed Creek, completely forgot it was on, will have to iPlayer that one.

Yes the caravan lady is Pauline Quirk. I think whatever is going on between her and the other plumber has got to be too obvious for them to have done it right? She does seem a nasty piece of work and she does have Danny's skateboard but I am sure the writers are trying to lure us into a trap with this one.

Don't know about you but I ended up feeling really sorry for Jack Marshall and what happened to him. Just shows what happens when the tabloids get involved in a story and I thought it was a nice little side story they gave him despite it's subject matter. Quite funny that Beth Latimer should show such hatred towards him when she herself is 15 having relations with someone older (albeit only 17 in the other boys case). I guess she may have been a bit different if she had realised that the girl Jack ended up marrying was only a month away from being 16 and the whole thing being legit as I think he only told Mark and the police this. Most people seemed to assume he was an abuser of little boys.

The whole setting in a small town and the fact that the one case has been spread over so many episodes gives you time to understand each of the characters involved which is really refreshing. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy my self contained detective shows but this has been a nice change especially after I was a bit worried about the quality of what would be left when Lewis ended but ITV have done well with this one.

  20. Is that all it got? I didn't know about it until a friend mentioned it on Facebook and I thought it sounded interesting.

It'd be a shame if they didn't carry it on. But yeah, 10pm on BBC3 on Sunday probably isn't the busiest time slot.

Got to agree with Broadchurch, it's been a long time since I enjoyed a show like this.

That caravan woman is way too suspicious to have done it. What with her enticing that other lad by saying he could come play with her dog. Rory in priest costume also seems iffy but I'm not sure if he's directly involved.
