So is In the Flesh basically a low budget British knockoff of The Walking Dead? TWD is the highest rated show on TV right now with about 15 million viewers per episode, so I guess knockoffs were bound to happen. And if the BBC is knocking it off, a Bollywood version can't be far behind.
You might be right. If you look at TV series viewership ratings in the last few years, CBS shows dominate that thing.
Apart from the fact that it has zombies in it In The Flesh is nothing like The Walking Dead. All of the zombies in ITF are people that had previously died brought back to life (still unknown as to why), you can't get turned by being bitten. It is the story of a boy who goes home after having risen and being treated for his condition with drugs (PDS, partially deceased syndrome). It tells the story of how a small community and the church deals with the return of what people see as monsters who attacked and the killed people and how those with PDS are treated and how they integrate. It is centred around one particular PDS sufferer called Keiren. Because they still look like zombies they have to wear make-up and contacts to protect themselves. I think in the entire 3 hour runtime there is probably a total of 5-10 minutes of violence so it may not appeal to American audiences such as yourself Cmdr. In other news I see there is now an American remake of Being Human, never really got into the BBC version myself. Not sure why American channels always feel the need to remake things, wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy and show the original? The inbetweeners USA is one of the worst things I have ever seen on TV and I saw Cmdr talking about Shameless the other day so assume that has been done too. I can kinda understand Shameless in the sense that Americans might not have understood Frank.
Not any more. TWD is beating everything on network TV at the moment. Mid season finale had almost 16 million viewers. That would be high even by CBS standards. To put things in perspective, the series finale of LOST only got 10 million viewers. I don't even think TWD is AMC's best show, but it's a good example of how viewers are moving on from the crap on network TV to higher quality cable programming. @Grim The American version of Shameless on Showtime is a trillion times better than the British version. They're not even in the same league really. I know. I've watched both. William H Macy is a much better actor than anyone in the British version. The writing is also better.
http://www.zap2it.com/tv/ratings/zap-season-ratings,0,1937498.htmlstory This shows CBS has plenty of shows that demolish everybody else's programs. Especially when you take off sports and talent programs (american idol, dancing with the stars). We can't see the full picture since it's not showing cable tv.
@cmdrmonkey: Your appraisal of UK vs US Shameless seems way off from what I've heard. They're both meant to be very good; a trillion times betters seems like slight hyperbole.
Netflix will be releasing the 4th season of Arrested Development this May. Season 3 came out in 2006 so it's been 7 year since the last episode.
A new 8 out of 10 cats countdown on tonight, loved the 2 previous ones and even the deal or no deal was good. Easily the best thing to come out of the Channel 4 mash up and it says Joe Wilkinson is in it again which is good as he has been the best part of all of them so far.
Holy crap, I never realized that shitty NCIS show was so popular. It's like a b-movie version of CSI, which was pretty shitty to begin with, and with more annoying characters and a more limiting premise. People need to stop watching TV - then they will realize that they used to just watch anything for the sake of it. Sure, you stumble upon some things you wouldn't have thought to ever watch, but damn... it's not worth all the wasted hours watching crappy shows you hardly even like and commercials. Old people will probably never be converted, but anyone under 40 should seriously consider giving up on TV.
You can have Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones when you pry them from my cold dead hands. TV is mostly a wasteland, but there are still a handful of amazing shows that are definitely worth watching.
Monkey is correct. There are shows that are still good, so we can stop watching crap but continue watching the things we love.
Thought this weeks episode of Dr Who was a lot better than the first 2. No surprise that it was a Mark Gatiss episode that picked things up. The preview for next week looked good.
I've been watching Season 5 of Mad Men on netflix. It seems like the quality in the writing has dropped. There are some rather uninteresting side stories going. Does anyone on this planet care about Joan's marriage/baby story with that loser military physician? The actor who plays him sucks, too. And their storyline for Betty is she has a mild health condition that causes her to gain some extra pounds. Wow! Riveting stuff! Hopefully they snap out of this soon. Having a scantily clad Jessica Pare on the screen now and then is the only thing that has kept this tolerable thusfar. Does season 5 get any better later, or is the entire thing mediocre?
I've been losing interest in Mad Men. The writing has gone downhill and many of the subplots fall flat. Take Betty for instance. I'm not even sure why she's still a major part of the show following her divorce from Don. And her being fat and depressed doesn't make for compelling television. Season 5 didn't get better IMO. I like hot French chicks and busty redheads as much as the next man, but I don't know if that's enough to hold my interest in the show. This was a pretty hot scene though.
Started watching Season 3 of Game of Thrones and realized I must have missed the last few episodes of Season 2. Thank goodness for HBO GO. I've also reached Season 2 of BattleStar Galactica.
