What TV Shows Are You Watching?

  1. Adventures of Jimmy Saville it sounds like.

  2. He's talking about a spinoff of Toddlers and Tiaras on TLC that has gained notoriety for the white trash featured on the show.

  3. I managed to watch 71 seconds of that. I'm impressed with myself that I made it that long.

  4. Is anyone watching House of Cards on Netflix? I'm about half-way through what is available and it's a great political drama. Kevin Spacey as Frank Underwood delivers.

  5. House of Lies

Don Cheadle is a pretty cool dude, but he deserves a better show. This is basically just your typical formulaic trashy Showtime show along the lines of Californication.

  6. I could swear we had a thread like this on the old forum. Looks like it didn't make the move.

    The White Queen

They were clearly going after the Game of Thrones audience. The War of the Roses was the main historical inspiration for Game of Thrones. The Lannisters, Starks, and Targaryens are fictionalized versions of the Lancasters, Yorks, and Tudors respectively. Some of the Game of Thrones characters are based on real people from this time in British history. The problem is that this show is boring, has a lot of bad acting, and feels low budget. Stick to Game of Thrones.

  7. I've given in to fake reality TV... It's really not that bad and some are entertaining. I mainly watch fake survival shows:

    Man v Wild
    Man Woman Wild
    Dude You're Screwed
    Lone Target
    Spec Op Mission

  8. Been watching season 2 of Orange is the New Black. It's not as good as the first season. Not sure why I keep watching it.

  9. True Detective

Matthew Mcconaughey and Woody Harrelson give good performances, but their accents are so thick they are hard to understand. otherwise this show is really slow and dull and I think it's highly overrated. I feel like cop shows have been done to death and this isn't really doing anything new or unique. They didn't get any good actors for Season 2, and it even has Mr box office poison Taylor Kitsch, so I probably won't bother with it.

  10. This is the first moderate review I've heard for that show. It's been on my watch list, just haven't gotten around to it.

  11. I'm about half way through season 1 and it's not really blowing me away. The IMDB rating would suggest it's almost on par with Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad, but it's just not that good. It's probably a 7/10 but mostly for Woody Harrelson's one liners and Matthew McConaughey's monologues. The crime they are investigating isn't even interesting. There are too many red herrings. It's actually pretty boring most of the time. They could have edited it down to half the number of episodes and they wouldn't have lost anything. In fact I think that's the big problem with the show. It needs tighter writing and editing. Breaking Bad never had filler episodes and rarely had any red herrings. Same with Game of Thrones. This isn't even a long series, and most of it is boring filler.

There's a hot brunette on the show with nice boobs that she shows. I'm wondering if that might be bumping up the rating.

  12. I would bump my rating for Season 1 of True Detective up to an 8.5/10 now that I've finished it. Overall it's a really good show, but not in the same league as GoT or BB. It gets better in the second half of the season. It gets creepier and there's a bit more action. Some of the things that seemed like red herrings weren't actually red herrings, and I'm curious how it would stand up to repeat viewing. I still think the show was too drawn out and slow though. This was a 4 episode miniseries worth of material stretched out to an 8 episode season. Also the show absolutely wouldn't work without Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. It's mostly their brilliant performances and the relationship between the two detectives that make the show great. I don't think having a second season with different actors and a new case was a very good idea. This should have just been a one off miniseries.

Also, fucking lol at this scene

  13. Orphan Black

I've only watched the first season. It started off decent. Tatiana Maslany is a good actress who slips seemleesly between playing different clones of the main character. It's easy to forget that all of these characters are being played by the same actress. But it started to get kind of shark jumpy towards the end of the season. I'm not sure how much else they can really do with it. The problem with mystery shows like this is that most of the appeal is from the intrigue of the mystery itself. The answers are almost never satisfying and rarely live up to the hype. LOST is another really good example of this.

  14. Just finished watching a series called Black Sails and I bloody loved it. Basically it's a series about pirates in the 1700's and it's damn good. It has the origin of Long john Silver too. Watch it now if you have not.

  15. I enjoyed Black Sails at first but it got pretty dull during the second season; felt like they were just stringing things out.

  16. I found S2 to be better than the first. S3 is bringing the real Black beard.

  17. I enjoyed the first disc of Season 1, but haven't yet watched any more of it. I wasn't entirely convinced that it was worth the additional time investment. Unintentional comedy part: the actors on that show have worked out WAAAAAAY too much. The pirates all look like they spend half their day in the gym.

  18. That looks like an imposter. Al Swearengen is the real Blackbeard.

  19. The Americans

This is actually pretty good so far. It's about a couple of Russian agents who have infiltrated the US. I like that it's morally grey and done from the perspective of what would normally be the bad guys. That they pose as a married couple with kids isn't as far fetched as you might think. Russian spies have actually been caught doing this, even very recently.

  20. It takes place at the height of the cold war so isn't far fetched at all. It gets a little family drama-y because Phil is completely Americanized but Felicity stays hardcore Russian.
