Watched Jessica Jones and Daredevil recently. Thought JJ was good; David Tennant was a great villain and it had a well developed story arc. DD was worse; was OK but really felt like a very drawn out origin story without a great overarching story.
Ash vs Evil Dead It's just as good as any of the Evil Dead movies. It has plenty of dark humor and over the top gore. It's great seeing Bruce Campbell return to the role of Ash, complete with his chainsaw hand and boomstick. Xena the warrior princess plays the villain. It's especially great to see something like this after that crappy Evil Dead remake they did a few years ago that didn't have Ash and was devoid of any humor, totally missing the point of what Evil Dead is supposed to be about.
I felt S1 was more an origin story for Kingpin than DD himself. I enjoyed it though, since I like Vincent D'onofrio. Still need to watch Jessica Jones, but I'm just not familiar with these fringe characters they are pushing now. Sweet. I Tivo'd these and forgotuntil I read your post. I'm glad to hear it's good.
I liked both Dare Devil and Jessica Jones but had to say I liked Dare Devil a little more. I did find Jessica Jones to be a little more fresh in concept and delivery, so if I had watched it first maybe I would have found DD less appealing. Still, both were well worth the watch and I'm looking forward to more. This is on a separate streaming service over here but I'm thinking of trying it out just because of this show. Only problem is my data cap... netflix is unmetered on my isp, other streaming services aren't.
New X-files wasn't that great. I think the show's best years are long behind it. It was always better as a monster of the week creature feature type show. It was bad when it focused on aliens in the later seasons. The reboot seems to be focusing on the dumb alien conspiracy stuff. Mulder and Scully looked old and bored.
Supposedly this season is supposed to have more monster of the week episodes in it then mythology episodes. Thought the first episode was fine, at least give it time to get into its groove it has been 14 years.
Tiny House Hunter shows on HGTV, etc I love how hipsters are so arrogant, they really think they invented the idea of living in a shack or a trailer to save money. They really think this is some new concept that has never been done before. White trash have been living in trailers and shacks for ages because they are poor and broke, and there's nothing glamorous about it. What next, house hunting shows about hobos trying to decide between the park bench, the dumpster, or a refrigerator box? Also most of these tiny houses are totally illegal. They violate zoning, building codes, and safety laws pretty much everywhere in the US. I've seen a few episodes where people were buying them in Florida. They would be complete death traps in a hurricane. Also lol at people thinking they can comfortably live in something that's 150 sq ft long term. Are they never planning to have a family? Worse yet, I've seen episodes where people already had like three kids and were moving into one of these things. Seemed like someone needed to call CPS. The tiny houses are also super expensive compared to an actual trailer of shack. Some of these things cost $60K +, for an overglamorized shack on wheels. Probably the most hilarious episode I saw was a family in FL with three kids who planned to move a converted shipping container into their backyard, shut off all their utilites, and foreclose on their house. Fucking lol. And the shipping container cost like $40K. I mean I get that mcmansions are wasteful or whatever. But just move into like an older more normal sized 1500 to 2000 sq ft house. This tiny house shit is retarded.
I just watched a hipsters living in a van youtube documentary. At least by the end the guy was honest and said it sucked. They couldn't always find a place to shower and people would call the cops on them when they parked the van to sleep. Turns out all the romance of being homeless is just an illusion.
Tiny house owners have very similar stories. They are illegal almost everywhere so they are constantly on the run from cops and code enforcement. They violate zoning and safety laws and laws against setting up shanty towns. Park the thing anywhere long enough and it will be declared an illegal structure and towed away and demolished. Here's a typical story: http://tinyhousegiantjourney.com/2015/10/30/tiny-house-eviction/ I think because most hipsters grew up rich or at least middle class, they tend to romanticize and glamorize poor people shit like this, where there's nothing great about it. The tiny house movement is trying to glamorize being trailer trash basically.
LOL WTF? ---------- Fuller House Saw the pilot and was surprised to find it's not bad. Very heavy on nostalgia and as cheesy as ever, but not bad.
X files. They basically ripped the plot Utopia did a couple of years ago around the populace. The means is a little different but the idea is the same. I found it a little silly at times. I'd say it was average as a whole.
Anybody watch Silicon Valley? I haven't laughed so hard since Tropic Thunder... it's about stereotypes running a tech startup. The show overall is average, but standout character Erlich Bachman makes this show worth watching. It's a Mike Judge show, so you can expect that level of maturity/humor.
People vs OJ Overall it's pretty good. The acting is a mixed bag. Some of it is excellent. The woman playing Marcia Clarke looks and sounds exactly like her. And some it is way too over the top, especially Travolta as Shapiro. There were a lot of details about this case I had either forgotten about or just didn't know. For instance I knew Mark Fuhrman was racist and corrupt, but I had no idea it was that bad. The tapes of him talking are horrible. The guy is a full blown white supremacist. I still think OJ did it, I just think Fuhrman, a racist cop with a history of beating up black people and falsifying evidence against them, who lied under oath and who had previously arrested OJ, is the absolute last guy you would want as a detective on this case, especially with an all black jury. It played right into the defense's claim of there being a racist conspiracy to frame OJ. The prosecution never should have put him on the stand. Having OJ try on the gloves was another huge blunder by the prosecution. OJ gave an Oscar worthy performance while trying not to fit into the gloves. People seem to think OJ got off because he had a legal dream team. His lawyers were good, but I think it had more to do with the prosecution being inept and making several critical mistakes. 8/10
The Girlfriend Experience Absolute trash. I really enjoyed it. One of the hotter wives from Mad Max Fury Road is a law student by day and a high class escort by night. 7/10
I finished Season 1 of House of Cards and I'm conflicted about watching season 2. It was good but I hate watching TV shows or movies about assholes.
Check It Out With Dr Steve Brule It's a 10 minute show that they play at odd times on Adult Swim. It's some of the funniest shit I've ever seen. They captured the look of crappy local access shows from the 1990's, and John C Reilly plays an extremely bizarre and hilarious character.
Preacher This show is so boring. I like a few of the characters, but nothing interesting seems to happen. It seems to go back and forth between being boring and being so over the top it's corny. Seems like another misfire for AMC.
