Rick and Morty Season 4 The only thing bad about Rick and Morty is that there isn't enough Rick and Morty.
Rick and Morty has had some great episodes this season. Sucks that it's almost over. There never seems to be enough of this show and the wait between seasons is long.
Space Force It’s funny but don’t be in the middle of a The Office binge when you turn it on. The first half of it kinda The Office meets the military. And it’s funny, it just falls a little flat at times and doesn’t really have the same charm while really wanting to have the same charm. But it’s the first season when most actors don’t really know their characters yet. I made the mistake of watching it during season 7 of The Office so it’s a little rough. But it does have some laugh out loud moments.
The Boys It has a unique and probably much more realistic take on superheroes. In this universe they have an unfortunate tendency to be gigantic douchebags who abuse their power. You look at how badly people tend to behave when given power and it seems unlikely much of anything good would come from people having superpowers. It surprises me with all of the superhero stuff that’s out there how rarely this is explored.
I thought a certain aspect of Starlight's arc was handled particularly well that could have gone into another direction politically. I thought her response to adversity was completely reasonable and justified without demonizing anyone in terms of demographics and identity politics. I'm giving Season 2's controversies the benefit of the doubt because they handled extremely controversial issues so well in the first season.
It also makes collateral damage damage a real thing. Even a good Sup could accidentally kill someone.
There has been some pretty significant and controversial changes to a major new character that have been major red flags to many, but tons of other stuff was altered substantially from the comic and turned out well in Season 1. It could go really well or badly depending no the direction they take with that character, but as I said I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt because of how well they handled extremely delicate topics like criticisms of religion and gender politics in the first season. If I heard there would be a #MeToo type of arc in Season 1 before I watched it, I'd be skeptical and concerned it was going to go downhill fast, but it didn't at all. I think they handled that topic about as well as anyone could. Hopefully they do the same with this new character.
Space Force This show is really unfunny and bad. I guess they were trying to make it like The Office with Steve Carrell basically doing his Michael Scott character in a military/space setting, but none of it works. It’s Netflix so they will probably keep it going, but this is a show that would have gotten canned after a few episodes if it was on a regular network.
That was one my few actual laugh out loud moments. The parts leading up to the drill. After that it was overkill.
Legion Pretty weird so far. I tried to watch it a few time before but never quite got into it. I’m like four episodes in but it’s pretty ok.
Just finished it. Reminded me of Legends of Tomorrow in a weird way. Like if LoT had a baby with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. But I liked it.
Caught up on Goliath Season 2 and Season 3. This show is really good at the season long conspiracy unravel. Although the results aren't always the best. I'd rate S1 > S3 > S2. The actually conspiracy was tame in Season 3 but they went all out with high end casting. The high quality acting really made it more immersive and a stronger story. S2 had the highest stakes conspiracy so far but I thought it went too far out of bounds. The "good guys" could've never survived it so it broke my suspension of disbelief.. The first episode is the weakest each season as it has to do a lot of world building. But it's pretty binge worthy after that. Think conspiracy variant of Broadchurch. 7/10
I got Disney+ free for 6 months so started watching the Mandalorian. Done the first 3 episodes now, the third episode I lost interest a little but hopefully the 4th can make things a bit more interesting again. Also realised just how little there is to watch on Disney+.
Dark It's just great, the way they play with time traveling is insane. You just need patience in few starting episodes of the first season and then it's just a rollercoaster. 9/10. Devs Totally disappointing, could be because I am a software dev myself for over 20 years. Couldn't stand the bullshit that flows from the screen, the plot just falls apart at the seams. 4/10 The Woods Couple of surprising twists but ultimately, stay away. 5/10 Into the night This one was surprisingly interesting as it's quite unpredictable and thus, fun. Since it's based on the first chapter of an actual book and from that very moment where the first season ends the book fast forwards years into the future, I wonder what they do in 2nd season (which is already announced). 7/10
