So I'm wearing my RayBans and the weather quickly changes from partly-sunny to torrential rainstorm. Since it was suddenly darker I took my glasses off to find it was harder to see. The polarized lenses in the RB actually improved visibility. I've never seen that happen with the cheap sunglasses...
That's just what happens with polarised lenses. You can get the same effect with a cheap pair of polarised sunglasses. But you never know, maybe rsyban have pioneered their own special HD vision polarisation that is better than real eyes.
It gave me superpowers. I don't remember my knockoffs having the same impact. Maybe they weren't really polarized and said they were.
A $15 pair of polarized sunglasses from Walmart or Target will give you the same effect. I'm guessing you've been buying the bottom tier $5-10 glasses that aren't polarized.
Polarization efficiency can vary from 10 to 99%.Then depending on the lens material there are different ways to make them. Triacetate and Polycarbonate polarized lenses are on the lower end. Triacetate is cheap $15 gas station glasses. It's just film on plastic. Blown polycarbonate is a little better. After that you have a higher end materials and methods. Lens made of glass or CR-39 are the high-end stuff you'd find in regular glasses for vision correction. The methods for adding polarization to those vary a lot.
So, I lost my RayBans and am back to cheap $15 polarized walmart sunglasses. The polarization quality is definitely inferior. A lot more glare than I'm used to. Not sure it's $145 worse though.
I broke the frame on my Maui Jims while on a theme park ride. I'm going to try and fix them with epoxy but if that doesn't work I'll send them in for repair. Meanwhile I'm using all the cheap sunglasses I have and most suck. My only decent pair are blue tinted Nike golf glasses. They're cheap but surprisingly durable. I have a cheap pair of polarized aviator glasses that I kind of like for the fit. After a year the tint started to wear off. I'm thinking about getting a nicer pair.
