Which luxury car brands do you prefer?

  1. That is mainly cause Bfun created the topic luxury cars, and there was mentions about an R8 and such, which is an high performance road car. An Koenigsegg is about in the same ballpark.

  2. Ahhh, so after bfun clarified he wasn't talking about ultra luxury cars that cost over $100,000, you mention an ultra luxury car that costs well in excess of $100,000. Makes sense. Start a thread about which country makes the best meatballs if you want a jingoistic thread - I reckon Sweden would win that easily enough.

Thinking about this debate more, I'd be interested in an Audi I reckon. Some of those look pretty sweet. Mind you, my dream car would still be one of the classic American muscle cars. I hired one a while back; the fuel consumption was crazy and the thing was massive beyond belief. Still, I loved it.

  3. An Audi R8 isnt below $100.000 either.

  4. And? What's your point, caller?

  5. You can't class the R8 the same as a Koenigsegg. The Audi R8 is a super car, plain and simple. The Koenigsegg (I assume we're on about the CCX here) is a true hypercar, just like the Pagani Zonda, McLaren F1 and Ferrari FXX. I was gonna piss all over your argument by saying that the Koenigsegg isn't even the second fastest because the Ultimate Aero TT (built by the yanks) has been recorded at 257mph, but now I read about a new Koenigsegg called the Agera R which has been reported doing 260mph. Still, if you're going to make a car that fast you may as well go the whole hog and make it the fastest car ever. The Ultimate Aero TT is the exact reason the Veyron Super Sport was built. First came the Veyron, very proud of being the fastest production car on the planet, then the Americans come along and build one faster. This pissed Bugatti off so they built the Super Sport to take the title back. I hear Shelby Super Cars are working on an even faster Ultimate Aero TT. And so the automotive arms race continues :)

  6. Actually the revised Vayron beat the Aero TT by 30km/h so it would beat that Agera R if your information on it is indeed accurate

  7. I know the Veyron Super Sport beat the TT, I said that. And yes I know the Super Sport would beat the Agera R, that's why I said if you're going to make a car that fast (Agera R 260mph) why not make it that little bit faster and be the fastest rather than almost beating the record and settling for second place.

  8. Oh wait. I missed the last part of your post where you said that Bugatti got pissed and made the SS, it left me confused at the end lol.

  9. I did wonder :) But back to the topic. Luxury cars. I've not really been in many cars I would describe as luxury cars, I'm not rich you see.

  10. I have been in a few. My bosses tend to drive Merc's, one of them has just gotten rid of his 3 year old C320 and replaced it with a brand new one that looks almost identical, only about £55,000 each.....

My step father drives an X5 which is pretty nice but even as a diesel drinks fuel, at best I think it gets 22MPG.

Not that interested in luxury cards myself, I can drive the X5 anytime I like as I am insured but I refuse to because its so damn big. Even my bosses C320 or whatever the new one is has a stupidly long front end on it, I would end up putting something like that into the back of something else as I wouldn't know where it was.

  11. !

  12. "I hope your trunk is massive cuz I'm gonna put my bike in it.' -40 yr old Virgin

  13. Its not a supercar? Then why does Top Gear and Koenigsegg themselfs call it an supercar?
Hence, even on their own website, they call it an supercar.

  14. They may call it what they want. It's a hyper car. The R8 is a super car correct? And the Koenigsegg is simply another class above the R8. They may call it a super car but frankly calling it that is an insult, it's better than that.

But my point remains valid, putting any Koenigsegg in the same class as the R8 is madness. In terms of performance it's like classing the Wii the same as the PS3/Xbox 360, you just don't do it.

  15. Hyper car, super car? I’ve never heard these terms. The quarter mile is the test of power and of course the muscle cars rule that. My girlfriend in high school had a Supra turbo. Car was fast as heck but she drove it like a grandma. Then she lent it to a friend and he totaled it.

  16. Never heard of the term super car? What the hell do you class Ferraris and Lamborghinis as then? Abnormally powered speed accessing automobiles?

  17. Supercar is a very common name here for those cars, never heard of hypercars though:p
Saw on wiki that the Agera R reaches 275mph, not really official but that would make it the fastest road car on the planet.

  18. Yeah I read the thoeretical top speed for that car too. Theoretical top speeds mean nothing. I'm sure the Veyron SS theoretical top speed is more than 275mph lol. They said the Agera R had been clocked at 260mph, and that's what counts :)

  19. Yea, would like to see it in Top Gear, really like that program, the humor make it complete;)

  20. I’d classify them as slow.
