Wii U Ex-spec-tation

  1. I am really confused, apparently it launches is the US on Nov 18, Europe Nov 30 and Japan Dec 8. Why Japan last? Is this a first for Japanese consoles?

    Also sky say Nintendo gave no price as they are letting retailers choose their own. Early indications £200-£250. Amazon currently have the white 8GB model at £249, wonder if pre orders will run out. The black 32GB says unavailable.

    Will see if I can find any more prices.

    Play.com
    £249 basic
    £349 premium with zombie game

    Shopto.net
    £245 basic
    £299 premium
    (Site is very slow must be getting hammered, loads of pre orders in their chart already.)

    Game.co.uk
    £259 basic
    £309 premium

    I always buy consoles at launch and resisting the urge to press buy is prooving hard. Reckon they will sell out soon too. Think the wife would kill me if I did...

    Bet Monsly has his ordered.

  2. Cool if you want to throw your money away on some gimmicky piece of crap with out dated graphics. Also good if you only want one or two decent games to be made available to you. I think I'll wait for the real consoles.

  3. @grim: I'm considering getting one, of course. But now I'm about to become a teacher of sorts, I simply won't have the cash to piss away anymore. I'm going to have to start busking to afford Borderlands 2, it's gotten that bad.

  4. I've got no intention of getting that Radeon 6670 powered Xbox 720. ::)

  5. Maybe you could sell some of the 300+ games you have purchased and NEVER PLAYED!

  6. Re: Re: Wii U Ex-spec-tation

    Indeed. I am finding it hard to be sympathetic to a man whose house is made not from bricks but from videogame cases.

  7. The Wii-U bundled with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will sell like hot cakes.

  8. Still no leaks on the hertz? If the CPU is three Broadway cores zip-tied together, the clock speed may be just a clean multiple of the Wii.

    CPU = 2x Wii = 2 x 729 MHz = 1458 MHz
    GPU = 2x Wii = 2 x 243 MHz = 486 MHz

    If 486 MHz is too fast for Nintendo's breeches, then 1.5x will have to do.

    GPU = 1.5x Wii = 1.5 x 243 MHz = 364.5 MHz = 233 GFLOPS (if 320 stream processors)

    What about RAM?

    RAM = 4x GPU = 1458 MHz (DDR3 or LPDDR3) = 11.7 GB/s

  9. How many generations is Nintendo going to continue duct taping Gamecubes together?

  10. Re: Re: Wii U Ex-spec-tation

    Maybe next gen they will shrink the die enough to put 6 of them on one chip. Think of the power, they might even be able to have 8 players on screen in the next Mario game!

  11. Man, imagine if Nintendo just silly puttied 3 Gamecube together for the original wii, they could've competed with the ps3 and x360 for visuals.

  12. Assassins Creed 3, Darksiders II, Epic Mickey 2, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and the New Mario Game will be day 1 releases. At least theres some decent games for it's first day.

  13. Most of them will no doubt be second rate ports though.

  14. But that is still AAA mature titles on a Nintendo console, so it's not all bad.

  15. I'm hearing just the opposite. The Wii U versions have better graphics and more content.

  16. I'm not suprised by any of this (just read the whole thread) , just disappointed, really disappointed.....its 2012 for fucksake! The quicker someone pirates the Wii-u games so they'll run on a tablet the better! These bastards are supposed to be visionarys not con men! Nintendo you suck balls!

  17. Can any of you come up with anything visionary? At least Nintendo try something different, unlike Sony and M$.

  18. Jumping on the tablet fad and using 12 year old hardware is hardly what I'd call visionary. More like gimmicky and underpowered.

  19. I think a lot of people just wanted Nintendo to get back into the visual race like they did with the Gamecube. No one here really cares about the new motion controls or tablet controls.

    Games like Watch Dogs, The Last of Us, Halo 4, etc got huge positive reception at E3 and I don't think this will change soon at all. Remember the Wii launched in 2006 and still to this day, motion control games take a back seat to these visual feast games. Hype and demand for titles like these are still strong for PS3 and X360. It seems like interest in the Wii titles dropped off significantly in the past few years, and if the Wii-U didn't exist yet, Nintendo would have a hard time keeping peoples' interests.

  20. That's all I think of when I hear the name Nintendo these days.
