Wii U

  1. Judging by total hardware sales, Nintendo competed quite well with the Wii. And I think motion control significantly improved the aiming method for consoles vs. dual sticks, which is nothing to scoff at considering how popular shooters are.

  2. @Armadeadn

Doubtful. Nintendo has buttloads of money. It's Sony I'm afraid may pull out of the console market. They're hemorrhaging money.

    @Alterego

Speak for yourself. I found the shooters I tried on the Wii basically unplayable. I remember back in 2006 everyone raving about how waggle controls were going to be the next big thing for shooters, similar to having a keyboard and mouse on consoles. Then I tried Red Steel, and realized the Wii-mote is laughably bad for shooters. In fact the Wii-mote is so horribly imprecise, it's really pretty useless for anything except drunken party games or kiddy games where everyone is basically just shaking the controller around aimlessly.

  3. Their hardware sales were really good but try just didn't have the software to back it up. I'm pretty sure the games that come out for the big three will be vastly inferior on the wii u just like the wii ports. Did you ever see black ops I. The wii? Oh dear.

  4. Nintendo turned a profit on all of the hardware they sold. They weren't selling the hardware at a loss like Sony and MS and hoping to make up for it with software sales. It really doesn't matter that the Wii didn't have much in the way of AAA games. It never needed to.

I hate Nintendo right now and their gimmicky bullshit, but they're absolutely rolling in money. They aren't going anywhere. In fact they're probably in a more secure position than MS, and definitely in a more secure position than Sony.

  5. It's not the same as mouse/keyboard, but it's definitely better than using thumb sticks. I don't think that's even debatable at this point. Even the 1st gen tech for Wii was better, and it got more smooth with the 2nd gen Plus later.

  6. I have to admit the Metroid Prime trilogy worked really well with motion controls. Aiming is fantastically easy, much better than dual analogue on other consoles.

Also bow aiming in 3D Zelda is easier, its quick and easy in TP but slow and inaccurate in OoT and WW.

  7. There's an advert for the Wii U doing the rounds that supposedly aired during Homelands here in the UK. It has been deemed awful by Kotaku, and I agree, but then I think the Wii U is kind of awful anyway. See the advert here:

  8. Is it the best video game advert EVAR? Nope, but it's not awful. Anyone who sees it will know what's different about the Wii U vs. other consoles. The POV treatment isn't a bad choice either.

  9. It's very... American.

  10. Any examples of an appropriately UK-ish console commercial that's considered to be good?

  11. Not really, I don't think I've seen an advert specifically for a console in some years over here.

Last ones were probably the Sony David lynch ones. They've had some good general ones recently though, like that Michael one

  12. Most of the stuff these days seems to be at least a partial spin-off of Nintendo's original Wii campaign, where there's always plenty of emphasis on the users themselves interacting with the hardware. Sony Move and MS Kinect were like that.

  14. It was a bad advert.
"Shoot at the tv like never before! SCHPEW SCHPEW SCHPEWSCHPEWSCHPEWSCHPEW"
All the while looking like a complete tit. "I want to watch tv now"
    "Shut up I'm playing mario!"
That would've made the advert more palatable.

  15. Nintendo have announced a Wind Waker remake this Autumn and a new Zelda game for the Wii U.

I wonder what they intend to do to Wind Waker as remake suggests a whole new build, perhaps no cell shading?

  16. It looks like it's pretty faithful to the graphic approach of the original.

  17. They best add some new dungeons to it as after you get the Master Sword there is only two.

  18. Yes, when you went to get the third pearl and found a fish freely giving it to you I couldn't help but feel the game had been rushed and the third dungeon had been missed. There were too few dungeons overall really, even after the master sword there are only a couple.

  19. I see this remaster as a way of getting and keeping new buyers happy until they get theyre new Mario and Zelda out.

Things looking good for Nintendo at the moment on both consoles.

  20. It's a way of trying to sell the Wii U to people who realise Nintendo don't make enough good new games to warrant the price tag. I'd guess.
