Liking 10 a lot. This is what 8 should have been. It's like a cleaner, faster, more modern version of Windows 7. The silly start screen that takes up your entire view and disrupts workflow is gone. There are live tiles, but it's just a few of them on the start menu and you don't need to use them. I will be upgrading when it comes out. Also, unlike 8, 10 won me over in 5 minutes. Glad MS finally pulled their heads out of their asses.
Welcomes to Windows 8.1 Biggest load of bollocks I have ever heard, the minute you go into a start menu you disrupt your workflow as you take your eyes off of what you are doing AND it takes longer to go through menus than click a single icon. Also who the fuck uses menus in this day and age, join the modern world, pin what you use most to the task bar and just type everything else, everything will be so much quicker.
Welcome to workarounds for a shitty tablet OS being forced on desktop users. Not like it matters. The W8 fanbois lost. Throw the copies of that dumpster OS in the landfill next to ET for Atari.
I.... use windows 10 just like i use windows 8... nothing really changed for me. I'll have to see what they do in future preview release builds.
Looks like you may still have to buy it. It's not included in the preview. Maybe I should leave nasty feedback about how it should be included. This Satya Nadella dude seems like he's actually taking a lot of the negative feedback MS has been getting to heart.
As past experience goes, Windows 10 will be the successful one. The one after that however, will suck.
Windows releases are a lot like Star Trek movies where you can count on them alternating between sucking and being good.
By your logic then Windows 10 should suck. NT6.0 - Windows Vista NT6.1 - Windows 7 NT6.2 - Windows 8 NT6.3 - Windows 8.1 NT6.4 - Windows 10 8 and 8.1 are separate releases.
8 and 8.1 are the same garbage and you know it. 8.1 was MS trying to put lipstick on a pig, and people still avoided that shit like the plague.
It's a different release so your theory doesn't hold up. 8.1 is as different from 8 as 10 is, the underlying system is very similar but the modern UI just became a start screen for finding apps and it really became a single desktop UI environment. Like Khaid I use 10 the exact way I use 8.1, its like using the same OS. Mac OS 10.7 is a different release than OS 10.6 Ubuntu 10.10 is a different release than 10.04 Android 4.4 is a different release than 4.3 Windows 8.1 (NT6.4) is a different release than Windows 8 (NT6.3)
They had a button for the start screen instead of that vague context sensitive shit. That was the only real change I saw when I tried it out. It was still utterly horrid and otherwise exactly the same. Would you consider that a new version? I wouldn't.
I don't know. A person could argue that there was a bigger difference between 8.0 and 8.1 than 95 and 98.
I upgraded to 8.1 a few weeks ago. I've noticed a few small UI changes. - power, all apps, and search icons on start screen - boot to desktop (skip start screen) - titlebar (minimize/close) on metro apps (mouse to top to show) - taskbar on start screen and metro apps (mouse to bottom to show) - metro apps on taskbar The power icon is nice. I use it.
Hawk gets his wish. The Windows 10 upgrade will be free for 1 year on any 7 or 8.1 device. http://www.theverge.com/2015/1/21/7866679/windows-10-will-be-a-free-upgrade-for-windows-7-and-8-1-users
