Windows 10

  1. Might want to hold out for a more professional opinion from one of the other guys. I don't see why a static IP should prevent upgrades. What the fuck is the point of even allowing a static IP, in that case...

  2. The error says it can't resolve the IP of the Windows Update server. It's not your internal network that is the problem.

I suspect you have a DNS problem and it isn't resolving the name to its IP.

  3. Any fix for it mate? yeah, windows update is not running either when I clicked it.

  4. You could give this a try:

  5. Ran it and it said I had no problems. Windows update is still not running. Doing my head in now.

  6. Try flushing your DNS

  7. Install went fine on the Brix after the BIOs update. Not sure why that BIOs wasn't available at Windows 10 launch. It's not like Win 10 was some big surprise. We've known about it for like a year at this point.

  8. Brix master race

  9. Anyone reading much about Win10 constantly sending data to MS servers? Kind of makes Win10 look like a big piece of spyware.

  10. I wonder what they'll do with teh info about all the wierd porn that I like.

  11. So Win10 will be able to stop piracy supposedly.

  12. I always welcome these anti-piracy measures from Microsoft. In 6 month it will fail so hard they will disable everything including rudimentary protections.

The KVS malfunction with Win 7 was epic. Their solution was to remove all protection from Win 7 Enterprise. You can run the full version without a serial number with only an occasional popup and no wallpaper lol.

  13. I'm thinking of going dual boot with Linux. What's a good flavor of Linux to use?

  14. Linux is for servers. Desktop Linux is for fags.

  15. I upgraded to win10 pro from win7 pro almost two weeks ago and I'm impressed. All my programs work and the games I have tried have no issues. All I did was uninstall my old graphics drivers and install new ones once the upgrade was done. But my system was running fine on the old drivers although I didn't try any games.

I've customised a few things... mainly I did the hack to get a colour border around explorer windows like windows 8. I didn't like the white title bar on the white menu. Even though the size of the title bar was the same I kept clicking and dragging just below it in the menu and not having windows move. This disables drop shadows but I don't mind. Apprently the latest update to the insider build applies your selected colour to title bars if you have "Show color on Start, taskbar, and action center" under the colors section under personalise. So this feature is coming soon. :)

The only other things I changed were privacy settings and the like. It did annoy me that I went through the trouble on setup to have windows not change my default apps and all that but it changed them anyway... Aside from those minor things, I'm loving the change.

  16. On the piracy thing - windows 10 does not search for pirated apps. It simply turns on updates for apps that were turned off before so that they have a better chance of working properly. You don't have to do the updates, but the apps may not work with windows 10 if you don't update them.

So you have 3 possible outcomes:
    1. Don't update because you find the app still work fine
    2. The app doesn't work so you give up on it/source a newer version
    3. You stupidly apply the updates even though the app still works and break the crack

  17. Windows 10 was easy to install on my laptop but is being a real shit on my desktop. I've done chkdsk, sfc, manual install, ect., and it's still not updating even though it said that it already did. The KB3078581 update never seems to actually be installed even when done manually.

  18. Tried a google search on that update and got nothing.

The updates are now cumulative, so you wont download old ones if you have already installed a new one. Say you upgraded a month ago, someone who upgrades today would only download the last update that you installed, not all of them.

  19. What's the general consensus... worth the upgrade from Windows 8.1?

  20. It's not night and day difference but yes.
