I watched the Korean movie Parasite last night, which I'd put in my top 3 for the year (so far) along with Joker and Alita: Battle Angel. It's really not something you want to read about ahead of time, so I'm not going to spoil anything. It's definitely not a copy of another movie and goes in directions you wouldn't have anticipated. The writing, direction, acting, and photography are all excellent.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood it’s slow paced but worth sitting through because the ending is really satisfying
I watched Captain Marvel via the free trial of Disney+. It was hot garbage. Bad writing and lame acting packed with woke social justice bullshit. Everyone who has ever held her back in the past was an evil man, and they go back to early childhood flashbacks with this stuff. No Doubt's "I'm Just a Girl" was even in the soundtrack at one point. I watched it because it was free and available in Dolby Vision, which was a nice aspect of Disney+. Not a good movie, though.
John Wick 3 Some of the fights in this actually dragged on too long and got boring. I didn't like it as much as 1 or 2.
Captain Marvel At last Marvel shows us that being a super hero doesn’t mean you have to be a masculine meathead or a smiling painted mannequin for male pleasure. The theme of how women are often held back from unleashing their true power made for an uncomfortable but essential message for our age. A background story movie, it fleshes out a well rounded character with good pacing and balanced action scenes. 3 thumbs up! Spinoff: https://neopvc.com/threads/the-marvelous-mrs-captain.1540/
Ad Astra It had good special effects and ok action, but there were a lot of things that didn't make any sense. Like what was with the moon pirates? They come out of nowhere. They’re never really explained. Or you’ve got Brad Pitt basically hijackkng his ship and killing his entire crew but it doesn’t appear that anyone back home really cares about this or that he ever faces any consequences for it. I think they were trying to make something like Apocalypse Now in space.
My daughter made me take her to see Jumanji: The Next Level, seeing Dwayne do Danny Divito and Kevin do Danny Glover was probably the best part. More so Kevin Hart playing Glover though, he was better. Other than that, it was a film.
Warcraft It was actually pretty decent. Sometimes it looked like a SyFy channel special but overall it was enjoyable. It kind of reminded me of the old Conan movies. 6/10
If Mel Brooks is still alive I would assume that he isn't allowed to make films anymore, he wasn't exactly the most politically correct back in the day, can you imagine what the kids would do if he released a film now?
Star Wars 9. It was okay, but something about it didn't feel right. Too much of the wrong stuff and not enough of the right stuff. 6/10
Really? I tried to watch Spaceballs and Blazing Saddles in recent memory, neither even made me smile let alone laugh. But then I do have a very dry sense of humour, perhaps they just aren't for me.. That or Monsly's SJW ways have been rubbing off on me. I myself watched Shazam!, well I say watched, I kind of had it on in the background while I did other things such as go into another room and make dinner. It captivated me that much. I also watched End Game, I didn't think it was anywhere near as good as infinity war, everyone just moped about the place being depressed.
Rise of Skywalker was a mess, but it's been screwed up for awhile. Some of it was trying to fix problems with the previous movie, and I've been reading rumors that there was massive studio meddling in this movie. They just need to get new leadership before they do any more movies. Kennedy needs to go. Filoni or Favreau would be perfect. I think The Mandalorian demonstrates that they know what they're doing with Star Wars.
I’m hoping Dune is successful and we finally get the dark, edgy Hard R version of Star Wars that fans have been wanting since Empire Strikes Back. Although technically Star Wars is a knockoff of Dune. The studio that is making Dune is so impressed with the early cuts that it got moved to a Christmas release.
Zombieland 2 Pretty much the same movie as the first one. Enjoyed the Bill Murray cameo at the end. Mr Rogers Movie It was alright Aeronauts Claims to be based on a true story but barely resembles it. CGI was bad. Knives Out Dull, implausible twists, Daniel Craig does a bad Southern accent
That’s how I watch anything 90% of the time. Shazam! was good popcorn fun though. Give it another shot when your more inclined for goofy kid jokes and some cool battles.
Joker I'm not sure how I feel about this movie. I guess it was pretty good but it's tie-in to the DC universe is pretty weak.
